For years, Middle School students have been required to wear collared shirts and kilts (navy leggings or shorts are optional). Teachers and parents alike frequently complain that the kilts are too short. Because the kilts are so short, we wear leggings or shorts underneath them. So, the kilts really serve no purpose. Why have them? Although some women in the workplace wear skirts, they are not “required’’ for work; plenty of women wear pants. In fact, I would guess that many women find wearing pants more comfortable than wearing skirts. I do! If the kilts have no purpose, and pants are more comfortable, doesn’t it make sense to give Middle School girls the option to wear pants or a kilt? I sure think it does!
On a related note, the AIS gym shorts also need an upgrade. Although a range of waist sizes are offered, the length of the gym short does not seem to change. So, you can purchase a larger waist size if needed, but the length of the short remains the same. Unless you are petite, the shorts are most likely tight, short, and uncomfortable. Offering a gym short that has a waist in proportion to its length will solve the problem. This will make exercising more comfortable for those of us who are not petite, boosting the confidence levels of those of us who are uncomfortable in our extremely tight gym shorts!
