Enrique Espinosa, el director de Lanzarotes servicios emergencies dijo que algunas casas fueron inundadas, pero ninguna persona fue herida. La lluvia torrencial fue causada por la Tormenta Olivier. Las Islas Canarias son vulnerables a las inundaciones porque el clima es muy árido y tienen piedras volcánicas. Estos factores hacen que la tierra no pueda absorber la lluvia. Hundreds of houses were hit in the streets of Lanzarote after the torrential rain on Saturday in the Canary Islands. The government declared a state of national emergency after it rained 2.4 inches. Enrique Espinosa, the director of Lanzarotes’s emergency services said that some houses were flooded, but no one was hurt. The torrential rain was caused by the Storm Olivier. The Canary Islands are vulnerable to floods because of the dry climate and the volcanic rocks. These factors make it difficult for the ground to absorb the rainwater. The latest advice of the Foreign Office (FCDO) says: The heavy rainfall and floods in Lanzarote occurred over the weekend. Traveling can be affected.
