Thanksgiving is a complicated holiday because of its roots in colonialism. It plays an important part in telling the false history that most interactions between colonists and Native Americans were peaceful, when in fact colonists were often extremely violent to indigenous communities. However, I also think it’s very important to have a holiday to reflect on what we’re thankful for, especially right before a season where we’re all looking for gifts we want.

Good food.
Thanksgiving to me is a holiday where I get to share a meal with my extended family. It means getting stuffed with good food & being so full I can’t stand.
Family and giving back.

Thanksgiving means a nice long break from school. Gratefulness and family, too.
Being grateful for what I have and realizing how lucky I am.
I love Thanksgiving as it is a time for family gatherings, reflection and gratitude for the many blessings in my life. And of course, the food is not bad either! 🙂
Seeing my family, running a thanksgiving 5k with my mom, and baking chocolate pecan pie!
Thanksgiving typically brings with it a low level of anxiety around appeasing as many family members as possible re: seeing both sides of the family for roughly the same number of hours so no one feels slighted.Â
