Sophomore Day 2021

Sophomore Day 2021

On Friday, May 7, the sophomore class celebrated Sophomore Day, also known as Ring Day! This day celebrates the 10th-grade class for receiving their class rings, a long-standing tradition at AIS that has occurred for over 100 years. Ring Day 2021 was definitely one for the books, with outstanding speeches, many pictures, and some great grade bonding time! Here are some of the details you might not have known if you were not one of the 73 sophomores who received her class ring on that day.

A difference for this year’s Ring Day was that students only missed one academic class block instead of two or more like in the past. The ceremony started promptly at 9:45, right after the end of the first-period D-block class. During the ceremony, women including Mrs. Keidel, Mrs. Seals, and Mrs. Hurst made speeches addressing the day and the class of 2023. The most noteworthy speech, however, was that of Annalee Stuardi-Drumm. Drumm, who was just elected class president for the 2021-2022 school year, was voted to speak on Ring Day by her peers. Her speech was beautiful and inspiring. Drumm started off with a poem, exquisitely demonstrating the rough year that we’ve all experienced. She then addressed the class and the bond we have all created and will forever have. This speech led into the presentation of the rings, with 10th grade advisors giving each advisee her ring. When the ceremony concluded, all students headed out into the Hamilton courtyard to take pictures. It was more like taking pictures after pictures after pictures, as one wanted to get a picture with everyone and their mother. Shoutout to the Gomes advisory for starting the trend of taking advisory pictures—they definitely did it the best.

After pictures, the class changed into comfy clothes and headed over to 672 for some lunch and class bonding time. The girls split into two teams and played an intense game of Survivor, with lunch being served right after. Cheesesteaks, cheese fries, and mac and cheese, all made up the surprise lunch provided by the Kellehers for Kennedy Kelleher’s birthday definitely made students cheese (smile :). There were lots of laughs and smiles for a great day, concluding with cupcakes and heading back to school. Overall, Sophomore Day was definitely a success. Finally, to promote success, girls turned each other’s rings, making a wish for the owner of the rings for the future. The class of 2023 will forever remember this day as it was definitely a special experience for every single girl who received her ring.
