Varsity Squash Wins Inter-Ac Championship

Varsity Squash Wins Inter-Ac Championship

Not having won the Inter-Ac Championship since 2019, Agnes Irwin’s Varsity Squash team faced Springside Chestnut Hill in an intense match to win the title. Fueled by a hunger for this win and a victory against Conestoga at AIS Squash’s Senior Night the previous day, the team felt great excitement as they gathered in the Pierce Squash Center.  While teammates tied blue and yellow ribbons into eachothers hair and warmed up for their matches, spectators filled the Center. Parents, relatives, students, faculty, and staff gathered around the glass courts and sat on the floor when the wooden stands filled.

While the squash courts’ loudest sounds are typically the echoing of the balls hitting the walls, on this day, these echoes were overpowered by the crowd’s cheering and applause. The energetic support from the crowd gave the players motivation to fight for every point. The spectators’ energy and exhilaration reached the players, heightening  the tension and making the experience more exciting for everyone present. Agnes Irwin won the match 8-1 and became the 2024 Inter-Ac Squash Champions. Hugs and congratulations were given, as confetti flew through the air and the team celebrated its victory on  this remarkable day for AIS squash.
