Q: How long have you been working/teaching at AIS? Have you always taught wellness for all four grades?

A: This is my 7th year at AIS, and yes I came in as the Upper School (9th-12th) Fitness & Wellness teacher and remain with all 4 grades, every school year.

Q: What was your previous job before coming to AIS? What was your college experience like? Any advice for the senior class?

A: Before coming to AIS I was at Drexel University as the Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness.  My college experience was awesome. I chose to go to a smaller school, closer to home to play basketball. I changed my major 3 times in 1 year, but once I settled in I made great friends and teammates, some I still stay in touch with. Advice for seniors – we talk about advice I feel like the entire spring semester but honestly as cliche as it sounds – don’t rush or wish away these last couple of months of high school. Enjoy them. Make memories. Connect with your peers. Appreciate your time together. Be in the moment.

Q: What is your favorite grade to teach? What is your favorite wellness unit to teach?

A: Honestly my favorite grade and unit is not something I can pin down because I genuinely believe in what I teach. I actually live out what I teach in my own life! I love every years’ curriculum because I feel as though they are age-appropriate and meet each student where they are developmentally. Teaching is actually my favorite!

Q: Do you enjoy coaching basketball? And volleyball?

A: I LOVE coaching basketball and volleyball. Developing girls on and off of the court is something I don’t take for granted.  There are so many relatable skills within a team sport to life and I love being able to see student-athletes in the classroom and on the court.

Q: What do you do outside of AIS? What activities/hobbies do you enjoy?

A: Outside of AIS, I LOVE spending time with my family and friends, from dinners to game nights to day trips! I love going to the beach, and spend most all of my summers in Florida or the Jersey Shore!

Q: We recently gained knowledge of your engagement – congratulations! Would you like to share anything related to it?

A: THANKS! ummmm – let’s see – my fiance is amazing and I’m so excited for this new chapter 🙂 Planning a wedding is not for the weary, but I’m trying to stay focused on the fun of it all 🙂 Also – there seems to be a lot of concern about my last name changing, but I can and will remain SHERBO here. 🙂

Q: What gives you such a positive attitude each day?

A: Hmmm. I would first say my faith, my perspective on life and on things is very rooted in my Christian beliefs. When you say “each day” I can’t help but think that I have a morning routine that includes working out, sitting down for breakfast, reading and having personal slow time to get my day going. My attitude is a choice, things are going to happen (traffic, other people, etc) BUT I choose joy, it’s a choice I’ve committed myself to make.  YOU ALL actually bring me so much joy – truthfully.  So it’s very hard for me to be in a bad mood when I spend 40+hours with you every week. I’m human, I have emotions and bad days – but I choose to focus on the positive and hold firm to everything happens for a reason – which is rooted in my faith.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to share with the Wick?

A: When I give you a DM – it’s actually because I care about you and you making good choices, not because I “don’t like you” or because “I’m mean”. I do it because for 4 years we talk about values, making good choices, representing ourselves authentically and accountability is a hard, but a very important lesson to learn. It’s also part of my job 🙂
